This cover story revealed what life was like for burns survivor and athlete Turia Pitt as she prepared for the pinnacle of all endurance events – Ironman World Champions, Hawaii on October 9, 2016.
Although Turia’s recovery after suffering burns to 65 per cent of her body during a Kimberley ultramarathon is known, no other journalist has followed a day in her life. Interwoven into the description of how Turia spent her 29th birthday, is her account of a brutal Ironman training regime in spite of finger amputations, skin tightness, unregulated body temperature and more than 200 operations.
Interviews with her coach, physiotherapist and fiancé also uncovered how she inspires thousands to set – and get – their own goals.
In addition to the cover story, I obtained an online exclusive announcing Turia’s World Championships qualification. I also advised Runner’s World on how to promote these articles using SEO and social media best practices.
